Hyde GUARDIAN®
Hyde Marine offers in depth disc filtration with Automatic Backflush Filter Systems as part of the Hyde Marine Ballast Water Treatment System. The filter features special grooved filter disk technology. This proven "Spin Disk" technology is the most efficient, filtration process available for high volume, difficult-to-treat wastewater streams. Benefits of Spin Disc Filtration Technology:
- Efficient Depth Filtration. Providing much more surface area than a screen
- Continuous filtration. The Hyde GUARDIAN Filter System is designed to backwash "one pod at a time" so flow is not interrupted.
- Low Pressure Drop allows use with existing ballast water pumps.
- Very low backwash volumes. Although the backflush is very effective at removing solids and biological materials from the discs, the total backflush volume is typically around 1% of the total water through the system.
- Automatic operation. Microprocessor control of backwashing.
- No media change-outs. The plastic discs are not affected by seawater and are cleaned efficiently by the automatic backflush.
- Small footprint. The filtration system can be configured to fit into virtually any machinery space.
Disc clean Hyde GUARDIAN® Filters are designed to provide continuous, trouble free, filtration service. Microprocessors control operation and monitor performance. The systems are built using high quality components and corrosion free materials for low maintenance and long service life in the marine environment. The filters are rated at 10 bar at temperatures as high as 85 celsius.
Available space on board ship is always a concern. The modular design of Filters allows the system to be installed horizontally or vertically to fit available space, and match the piping system. The filter modules are available with individual filter heads or in the new Hyde GUARDIAN Filter design with five stacks of discs in each module.
The automatic backwashing cycle is initiated by time, differential pressure, or a combination of both. The process is conducted using filtered water on one module at a time to minimize the effect on the total flow rate. This results in the smallest ratio of backflush volume to treated water volume in the industry, and is much smaller than for auto-backflush screen filters.
The Spin Disk filtration systems provide a constant and precise filtration grade without the adverse effects of breakthrough or channeling commonly associated with screens and filter beds. Several different rates are available, but Hyde Marine has been involved with testing of these filters on ballast water using 55 micron filter discs.
