Hyde SENTRY™ Forceful Non-Lethal Counter-Piracy Solution for Ships and Offshore Platforms

There has been an increase in the level of global piracy on the high seas. Vessels which operate in known high risk areas of the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea are being advised to prepare the crew and vessels before to reduce this risk and increase the chance of escape from attack. In fact, all commercial vessels should consider preparing for the worst case as the risk of piracy is growing in many other areas of the world.

Hyde Marine Inc. offers the Hyde SENTRY™ non-lethal counter-piracy solution to meet ship-owners’ increasing concern for the safety and security of crews, ships and platforms.

The Hyde SENTRY™ is a scalable shipboard solution for intruder detection, deterrence, and self-defense. The system includes one or more defensive sentry stations that can include:

  • Remote day/night surveillance cameras for detection and for safe remote operation of the Sentry system.
  • Integrated 45 million candle power search lights – used in FLOOD mode to aid in detection.
  • Powerful searchlight is remotely focused to SPOT mode to create an intense beam of blinding light to aid in stopping intruders from approaching further.
  • Powerful remote controlled water cannons intimidate potential attackers by their mere presence as well as creating an effective anti-intrusion barrier when used.
  • Water Cannon with capacity 300 - 1100 m³/hr and throw length up to 150 meters can be used for forceful defense against approaching vessels.
  • Also serves to augment existing fire protection systems and SAR operations.

The Hyde SENTRY™ system should be tailored to the requirements of each vessel. Effective deterrence begins with a careful analysis and recommendations from Hyde engineers. A typical solution for cruise ship or commercial vessel would include two Hyde SENTRY™ stations, strategically located at the stern quarters of the vessel. Each station includes a remote controlled high resolution video camera, high intensity variable beam searchlight, and powerful water cannon.

The outboard corner positions enable forceful protection of the aft sides of the ship as well as effective defense against attacks from astern. The 23x zoom video camera and searchlight in flood mode can be used for scanning at night. Once an object/intruder is detected, the high intensity beam can be quickly focused and used to ward off the target as well as partially blind advancing intruders. If necessary, one or both water cannons are brought online by the operator with the press of a button and directed at the illuminated target.

Sizing and performance of the water cannons will depend on available water source on the ship or if Hyde will install a dedicated pump system for this service. Control of the water cannons can be by wireless remote or joystick control at a central control station in the bridge. The system can also be used for firefighting and SAR operations, as well as for ceremonial purposes.

The Hyde SENTRY™ incorporates best of breed technology with industry leading products like Carlisle & Finch search lights, Sony cameras, and Akron Brass water flow products. The system can be networked into existing command and control systems for ease of remote and secure use.

Hyde also offers LifeShield™ blast protective panels and hull coatings as well as fully automated external fire fighting systems for coverage of balconies and outside deck areas.
