Taiwanese Technical Seminar Raises Donations for Typhoon Victims
Hyde Marine, Inc., a Lamor Group company, recently participated in the 14th Ship Owner Technical Seminar Taking place on August 14th in Taipei, Taiwan, during the aftermath of the typhoon Morakot.
Morakot was the first typhoon to hit Taiwan this year. In this part of the world, typhoons are frequent between July and September, often causing injuries and deaths in mountainous regions prone to landslides and floods. This typhoon caused the worst flooding in fifty years, and Taiwan received 2.5 m (100 inches) of rain in 24 hours.
Hyde Marine’s COO Mr. Mats Björkendahl and Asia Sales Director Mr. Steven Matthew arrived in Kaohsiung City after the typhoon smashed into Taiwan. Despite the challenging circumstances, the Taiwanese Ship Owners and the Organizing Committee persevered and carried out an extremely successful and rewarding seminar in the aftermath of the Morakot.
The Technical Seminar focused on Ballast Water Management and Hyde Marine presented the Hyde GUARDIAN™, a Ballast Water Treatment system that is one of only six systems that have received International Maritime Organization (IMO) type approval. What made this seminar unforgettable, were the remarkable atmosphere and the tremendous enthusiasm and willingness of the participants to help the Morakot victims. Mrs. Joyce Chen, Managing Director of LSC Multech Co., Ltd., Hyde Marine’s representative in Taiwan, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, inspired all the 180 participants of the Technical Seminar by making a substantial personal donation to support the people suffering from the aftermath of the typhoon. Mrs. Chen’s donation led to a landslide of donations by the seminar attendees, the Organizing Committee as well as by all the banquet guests.
“In our business we are not only trying to protect and preserve the environment, we also contribute to rebuild after natural catastrophes like the Morakot,” says Mats Bjorkendahl, COO of Hyde Marine Inc.
